Commissions and

Pricing

Pet portraits are perhaps the most fitting way to celebrate that special animal in your life, your best friend. If you are looking to commission a hand drawn, original piece of art for your home, or are looking for a gift for a loved one you have come to the right place. You can guarantee that many hours will have been spent in creating a true likeness and capturing the character of your pet. I work from photographs using the highest quality lightfast coloured pencils, building layers of colour to give depth and vibrancy to my drawings. Any animal is welcome! I ask for a 25%  booking fee (deposit*) to secure your portrait place, with the full balance due on completion.  *Deposits are non refundable except in the unlikely case where I have to cancel your booking, in which case I will refund your deposit in full.

It is helpful to send me as many good quality digital photographs that you can to help me achieve a realistic likeness of your beloved pet. You may already have some suitable photographs but if not here are a few tips abut taking good photographs of animals.

1. Take the photo from the same level as them which may involve crouching down or even lying down - it makes a much better portrait.

2. Take the photograph in natural light - not too many strong shadows if possible. A clear, bright morning is sometimes the best.

3. Get as close to them as you can and try to get them to look straight at you. This may involve enlisting someone to help you by holding a treat above your head or make a noise to attract their attention.

4. I find that the best photographs are where you can clearly see the colours and the details in their eyes.

Depending on suitable reference photographs being available portraits can be classic head and shoulders, a close-up, tight cropped face only or a full body drawing.  The size of the paper should be taken into consideration when making a decision on the style of portrait you would like.   Commissioning a portrait of a pet is often a entirely new experience for many people so it is understandable that you may have a lot of questions. Please contact me by filling in the contact form or sending me an email. I will always try to reply with 24 hours. During the drawing process, I can email photos of the 'work in progress'. Once your portrait is completed a scan will be emailed to you for approval. Once approved the balance is due either by bank transfer or Paypal.

I realise that many portraits are memorials and I will work from poor quality photographs where higher quality photographs are not available, but please understand that your portrait will be less detailed.
